Yesterday, October 15, Activision Blizzard announced the end of active support for StarCraft 2. There will no longer be paid content for the game, such as new commanders, containers and so on. However, they are not going to say goodbye to the game completely.

In the future, StarCraft 2 will receive regular updates. We're talking about balance tweaks, new seasons, and other mechanical improvements. The esports ecosystem of the game will also continue to exist. ESL Gaming and GSL will continue to host esports events.

Finally, in a statement, VP Rob Brydenbecker hinted that Activision Blizzard will develop the StarCraft universe: We understand that some players were interested in elements that will not be represented in the game, but there is also good news: changes will allow us to make plans for the future not only for StarCraft II, but for the entire StarCraft universe."

In July 2020, StarCraft 2 celebrated its 10th anniversary. In honor of this, Blizzard released a huge patch, and therefore no more edits are expected in 2020.
