Will the game console crisis last until 2023?
The CEO of Intel, which specializes in the production of components for computers and game consoles, in an interview with CNBC, told the disappointing news about the console crisis. According to Pat Gelsinger, the shortage of semiconductors, which are needed for the production of video cards for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, could continue until 2023.
Pat said that Intel is now, to put it mildly, in an unenviable position. In the entire history of Intel's existence, the current time is the most difficult for the tech giant. Nevertheless, management is optimistic about the future and assures people that Intel's situation will improve every quarter. Until 2023, there will be a shortage of parts, after which Intel will be able to provide game console manufacturers with everything they need.
Takeshi Kamebuchi, head of Toshiba's semiconductor division, has previously also talked about the continued shortage of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In turn, Takeshi named slightly different terms. According to him, the trend of shortage of chips will continue at least until September next year, and the worst-case scenario implies a shortage until 2023.
