In the near future, Twitch on Nintendo Switch will cease to receive support and stop functioning
On Tuesday, it became known that numerous users have taken to Twitter to share messages claiming they have received notifications from Twitch regarding the discontinuation of support for Nintendo Switch.
The message received by users reads as follows: "We are reaching out to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to remove the Twitch app from Nintendo Switch. The app will be removed on January 31, 2024. We appreciate your support for Twitch streamers and the Twitch community on Nintendo Switch."
Twitch's support page has been updated with more detailed information about the timeline. On November 6, the Twitch app will be delisted from the Nintendo eShop, which means that new users won't be able to download it.
Existing users will lose access to the app on January 31, 2024, rendering it effectively useless.
It's worth noting that the Twitch app was added to the Nintendo eShop on November 11, 2021. However, several key features, such as the ability to read and send chat messages and subscribe to channels through the app, were never implemented, making the mobile version a more viable alternative.
In a statement to The Verge, Gabriella Raila, Twitch's Director of Global Corporate Communications, said, "We recently made the difficult decision to remove the Twitch app from the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo remains a valued partner, and we appreciate all the support the Switch community has provided to Twitch and our streamers."
