Silica, a game that combines real-time strategy and first-person shooter genres, will soon be released in early access on Steam for PC.

Players will battle on the desert planet of Baltarus, choosing between fighting as a first-person soldier or commanding from the air for strategic planning.

Soldiers will need to use weapons and vehicles to achieve victory, while Commanders work from orbit to gather resources, build structures, and dispatch units.

One of the game's factions will consist of alien inhabitants of Baltarus, who will try to stop humans from exploiting the planet's resources. Aliens can transform into eight different creatures, while humans will have access to five classes and 11 vehicles.

Silica will launch in early access with three game modes: Prospector, Strategy, and Soldier. Prospector and Soldier will be first-person action-based modes, while Strategy is the flagship mode that blends RTS and FPS.

The game is published by Bohemia Interactive, the developer of DayZ and the Arma shooter series. However, Silica's development is going through Bohemia's incubator program and was created by Martin Melicharek, the main developer of Take On Mars.

"We know how important player feedback is to improving our games," said a Bohemia representative. "This is especially important for Silica, as it's being created by an external developer through our Bohemia incubator program."
