Activision Blizzard May Allow Advertising Of Alcohol And Bookmakers In Its Tournaments
Activision Blizzard may allow alcohol and bookmaker advertising in its Call of Duty League and Overwatch League tournaments. This is reported by the source of the portal The Esports Observer. According to the source, the company plans to allow participating teams to enter into partnerships with bookmakers and spirits producers. However, at the moment, official representatives of Activision Blizzard have not commented on the situation.
Interestingly, Activision Blizzard, behind the Call of Duty League and the Overwatch League, refused to accept sponsors from the gaming and alcohol business from the start. However, in the course of the development of esports ecosystems, the company began to make exceptions. For example, in one season, the Overwatch League was sponsored by the non-alcoholic beer brand Bud Light.
In addition, not so long ago, the London Royal Ravens team, playing in the Call of Duty League, announced a partnership agreement with the e-sports bookmaker Midnite, and, contrary to expectations, the league administration did not interfere with this. It is likely that the company's management has decided to revise its policy and remove restrictions.
It is expected that in the near future the situation will clear up and Activision Blizzard will make an official statement on this matter.
