Gabe Newell hints at Valve's move to New Zealand
In an extensive interview with Auckland, Valve Corporation co-founder Gabe Newell said he was considering moving the company to New Zealand. In addition, Newell shared information that the next major championships The International in Dota 2 and Major in CS: GO may take place in New Zealand. Recall that the Newell family and a large number of Valve employees traveled to New Zealand in 2020 and decided to stay there during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Valve moved to New Zealand, Newell told the channel that he did not want to rush to confirm any plans, but there is currently talk of moving his studio from Seattle to New Zealand. This is largely due to the low number of COVID-19 diseases in the country and the fact that many employees of the company approve of the idea.
Newell also said that holding Valve's esports tournaments in New Zealand is becoming "more and more realistic," although, like his thoughts on moving the company to New Zealand, it is only in the early stages of conversation.
New Zealand has a total of 1,906 confirmed cases and 25 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
