SK Gaming player Marcelo «coldzera» David became the player of the year according to The Game Awards. He bypassed Lee «Faker» Sang-hyeok (League of Legends), Byun «ByuN» Hyun Woo (StarCraft II), Lee «Infiltrator» Seon Woo (Street Fighter V) and Juan «Hungrybox» Debiedma (Super Smash Bros). The winner was determined by the user voting at the official website of the ceremony.
Cloud9 became the best esports organization, and Overwatch became the most popular esports discipline.
The Game Awards is an annual ceremony of rewards in esports industry, established in 2014. In 2016, 24 nominations were introduced. The event took place on December 2 at Microsoft Theater, LA.
