Here’s How the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Leaps Ahead of Its Predecessor, the Galaxy S22 Ultra

Cet article est disponible dans les langues suivantes

The Galaxy Note series has always been the top-of-the-line flagship device in Samsung’s lineup. Its most exciting feature was the S pen, but its boxy look and design appealed to many people. However, the Note 20 Ultra ended that era in 2020, with Samsung officially canceling the note series in 2022.

We did not have to wait long to have our favorite boxy design and S pen back when Samsung launched the S22 Ultra. The design remains breathtaking and looks note-like, although it ditches the name. Today, we have the new S23 Ultra, a phone that looks similar to its predecessor but does better in other areas.

It’s not particularly exciting to upgrade from the S22 Ultra to the S23 Ultra, even with upgrades in several areas. However, now might be the time to drop the S21 Ultra or even the Note 20 variant for this flagship. We'll talk about its most interesting features and how it's a big step up from its predecessor.

The Major Differences

The Galaxy Note series did not have a smooth ride to its demise. We can remember the exploding Note 7, which caused Samsung to lose 14 billion dollars from its market capitalization. Nevertheless, the smartphone giant has long moved past the unfortunate incident to regain its status as the flagship among Android devices.

Samsung launched the S22 Ultra on February 2022, with some mind-blowing specifications. Here are some of them:

  • 108 MP OIS primary camera with laser focus and PDAF
  • 6.8" dynamic AMOLED 2x 120 HZ display
  • 5,000 mah battery
  • Corning gorilla glass Victus+
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

The S23 Ultra keeps most of these features but pushes a few ahead. Here’s what you’ll get with the device:

  • 200 MP OIS primary camera with laser focus and multi-directional PDAF
  • Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

So, where does the new flagship take its leap? Here are a few things to consider:

The Processor

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor delivers sterling performance over the 8 Gen 1. Not only that, but Qualcomm has also worked with Samsung to tune the processor for the Galaxy SoC. Here’s what the benchmark scores have to say.

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 968359 (Antutu v9)
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: 1241531 (Antutu v9)

With its advanced parameters and the durability of its processor, you can expect the newer device to handle tasks more fluidly than the previous one. Whether you pick on heavy games like Genshin Impact or play online slot games, the phone will hold up well and handle complex graphics. Besides, when making deposits on slots via cryptocurrencies, the phone will help you switch between tasks more easily. Given that, while both devices look similar in shape and design, one performs significantly better – the extra boost in performance rubs off in other areas. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will likely be the same processor in the upcoming Galaxy S9 tablet.

Camera

This is another area where the upgrade is very noticeable. Samsung announced its 108-megapixel camera sensor in 2019 after developing the 64-megapixel sensor. The new sensor was the choice for flagship smartphone manufacturers, except Apple, but it soon trickled down to other, less premium devices.

Given that it took Samsung four years to roll out a higher resolution sensor, the 108 mp sensor has aged. Still, we expected excellent results with the new camera, and the S23 did not disappoint.

Coupled with the new AI-powered image signal processing algorithm, the new sensor has delivered stellar results. Its dual optical image stabilization has taken nightography to the next level. Put it side by side with the S22 Ultra’s night images, and you’ll notice the difference.

The new camera technology includes a new AI super-resolution technology for its digital zoom. That makes zoomed-out shots crisper and clearer.

Let’s talk about videos. The S23 Ultra can record 8K videos at 30 frames per second (fps), significantly improving over the 24 fps of the S22 Ultra. Also, there’s less noise and better stabilization in the newer flagship.

Do These Upgrades Matter?

Okay, we have a faster processor, a 200-megapixel camera sensor, and a new image processing algorithm. However, you’ll still be satisfied with the images the S22 Ultra produces. In our opinion, upgrading to the newer model would be an extreme move.

The case is different if you have the S21 series or even the S20 and Note 20 series. These aren’t bad devices, but the S23 Ultra significantly improves processor speed, camera, and screen. Hence, you’ll be safe to upgrade to the latest technology.

Competition and Final Thoughts

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is a significant leap for Samsung. However, it faces competition from other premium and less expensive devices. The Vivo X90 Pro+ packs the same processor and has excellent camera technology.

Then, you have the recently released Oneplus 11, which is already pulling crowds. It’s a premium device with excellent performance, but at a lower price. We would’ve mentioned the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but that is not in the Android category.

It seems Samsung’s innovative spirit is back with the S23 Ultra. We can only anticipate more upgrades in the coming months of 2023.
