Overwatch 2 Players Discontent with Kiriko's Recent Legendary Skins
Some Overwatch 2 players have expressed dissatisfaction with the latest Legendary skins for the hero Kiriko. Overwatch 2 is renowned for its creative skins that offer varied appearances for its characters. Typically, Kiriko's skins follow this trend, but a few of her recent Legendary skins have not met player expectations.
Kiriko, a kunoichi healer, trained alongside Hanzo and Genji, and uses her kitsune spirit to aid her allies. Her skins range from Rare to Mythic tiers, with notable examples like Visual Kei and Sakura available in the store. The Athleisure and Sukajan skins represent her Legendary looks, while other skins such as K-2000 Blademaster and Amaterasu, Kiriko's Mythic skin from Season 3, have also been well-received by players. Despite her wide range of skins, two recent additions have sparked debate among the Overwatch 2 community.
According to Reddit user Chair_Last, some players are unhappy with Kiriko's newest Legendary skins. The post questions what qualifies a skin as Legendary, specifically criticizing the quality of the Terrible Tornado and Hashimoto skins. The Terrible Tornado skin is part of the Overwatch 2 and One Punch Man collaboration, which justifies its tier to some extent. However, the Hashimoto skin, which transforms Kiriko into a member of the Hashimoto clan (the group responsible for the death of Hanzo and Genji's father), is more contentious among players.
Debate Over Kiriko's Legendary Skin Status
Several Overwatch 2 players supported Chair_Last's argument, noting that the "selling power" of skins might dictate their high tier more than their visual quality. Another player mentioned that the frequent appearance of Hashimoto Kiriko in games suggests the developers were correct in labeling it as Legendary, likely due to its profitability. However, in another subreddit post, players expressed reluctance to purchase the Hashimoto skin, describing it as attractive but not deserving of the Legendary status due to its similarity to the character’s existing outfits, calling it an "overpriced epic skin marked as Legendary." This issue reflects a recurring concern among Overwatch 2 players regarding the classification and pricing of Legendary skins.
Blizzard's monetization strategies have faced criticism since the original Overwatch, and this scrutiny has intensified with the sequel. In addition to the discontent with Kiriko's recent Legendary skins, players have also criticized the price of Overwatch 2's Mythic Prisms, the currency for purchasing Mythic skins, highlighting ongoing player dissatisfaction with the game's monetization practices.
