Fortnite Adds Tesla Cybertruck: Playable July 23!
Fortnite will introduce a driveable Tesla Cybertruck to the game on July 23. This announcement followed a teaser image posted on the Fortnite Twitter account on July 21, showcasing some tread marks and a fragment of the Cybertruck logo. Tesla is no stranger to the gaming world, as its cars have featured ways to play games via the touchpad on their dashboards for some time.
Fortnite has been part of several collaborations recently, with the most recent being a Pirates of the Caribbean collab added to the game on July 19. Other crossovers in the popular title this year have included everything from Marvel and Fallout to the rock band Metallica. Epic Games has previously collaborated with real-world car companies, bringing vehicles like the Nissan Z, Lamborghini Huracán STO, and McLaren 765LT into the digital realm. This upcoming release marks Tesla's first collaboration with Fortnite.
On July 22, Fortnite released a trailer on its official Twitter account showcasing a Cybertruck towing a battle bus, tank, and pickup truck, driven by the fan-favorite Fortnite character, Fishstick. Tesla first integrated Steam into its cars back in 2022, so a collaboration with a game as popular as Fortnite isn't too surprising—though how fans will react to the vehicle's inclusion remains to be seen.
Tesla has been heavily marketing its Cybertrucks, especially after announcing a factory in Texas dedicated solely to their production back in 2020. There have been several recent commercials and press events highlighting the Cybertruck's capabilities, although the model has faced criticism from some. Critics argue that the Cybertruck's capabilities are comparable to other trucks on the market, while detractors often mock its unusual design.
Tesla vehicles are also known for their self-driving capabilities, but the technology is not perfect. In 2022, a Twitch stream showed a Tesla nearly causing an accident after its touchpad froze during full self-driving mode. Although this occurred during the feature’s beta testing, it serves as a reminder that drivers must remain attentive while using this technology.
Fortnite continues to excel in its collaborations, with Pirates of the Caribbean and Metallica being among the most notable this season. Recently, Fortnite featured a concert experience for Metallica, with band members included in the season’s Festival Pass for Fortnite Festival. The Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration brought its own Event Pass, along with several character skins, including Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. Limited-time items are also available in Fortnite’s Battle Royale modes, such as the powerful Ship in a Bottle mythic item that summons a ghostly pirate ship for players to ride. The Cybertruck is the latest addition and will be available in the item shop on July 23, as a car skin.
