Fortnite will never return to the App Store - Apple refuses to make concessions again
On his Twitter account, the head of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, revealed new details regarding the proceedings between Apple and Epic Games. According to him, the "apple company" is still refusing to restore the Epic Games account in its App Store. The litigation process can take up to five years, and until the very end of the proceedings, Fortnite will obviously not be able to get to the iOS platforms.
In addition, Tim said that Apple are liars who have not kept their promises. They gave their word to restore the Epic Games account in the App Store if Tim Sweeney's company made the same conditions for all partners of the platform, but after receiving an affirmative answer from Tim Sweeney, Apple did not restore the Epic Games account on its site. Apple, in turn, referred to a court decision, which ruled the freedom of App Store owners to issue bans and delete accounts at their discretion.
The California Federal Court delivered its verdict on September 10. By their order, Epic Games were required to pay Tim Cook's company $ 6,000,000, and Apple, in turn, had to allow Epic Games to use third-party systems to pay for purchases in applications available on the App Store. Epic Games were still unhappy with this decision and filed an appeal. Thus, the trial was extended.
Recall that in August last year, a protracted saga of the confrontation between Epic Games and Apple began. Fortnite devs came up with a method to circumvent App Store commission fees in order to increase their profits from a popular game that also visited the App Store. Epic Games has added the ability to make in-app purchases without using App Store payment methods. Apple, of course, did not appreciate such an entrepreneurial spirit and completely removed Fortnite from the App Store, leaving the developers of the title with no earnings at all, which came from the users of the App Store. Epic Games decided to defend its right to use in-game purchases bypassing Apple's payment systems, and at the same time restore Fortnite in the App Store. To do this, the game developers have filed lawsuits against Google and Apple in different countries. Google has also removed the game from its site, Google Play, at the request of influencers. Epic Games did not stop at filing lawsuits and complained about Google and Apple to antitrust services.
