WESG 2016 presented by Alipay Dota 2 tournament results

WESG 2016 presented by Alipay, a huge esports event, highly anticipated by many players, is over. It means, that the time to take the stocks has come.

The Filipino team TnC Gaming won the event. This team demonstrated perfect game during the championship and showed the best results in their group. Also, their results were one of the best during the whole group stage. The team was seeded to Group D along with Infamous, MAX.Y, Team Ukraine, Comanche and Signature.Trust. The Filipino players surprised everyone. The Alliance were the favorites of the tournament, however, TnC Gaming proved that they can compete with the best rosters of the world.

TnC Gaming lost their first match in the group stage against MAX.Y, but after that they won against Infamous, Signature.Trust and Comanche. A match against Team Ukraine ended with the draw.

Team Ukraine became the disappointment of the event. They had enough strong players, but did not manage even to qualify from the group round, losing the matches against MAX.Y and Infamous. The team played three games with a draw, won one match, and lost one more match. It was not enough to qualify to the play-off series. Team Ukraine roster was as following:

Other groups of the event were quite weak. The Alliance and Cloud9 were the only teams, the expected results of which were rather high.

As for the organization of the tournament, there were no scandals or problems. Alisports and ImbaTV proved again that they can handle huge events on the highest level.

One of the main traces of the event was that all roster has to consist of the players from one country. WESG 2016 presented by Alipay became a kind of world tournament with national teams.

During the event, the information appeared that Alibaba Group signed a contact according to which they obey to invest $150,000,000 into the development of esports in China. It means, that now we can expect for the next World Electronic Sports Games event. The contract was signed for 10 years, and during the upcoming 3 years, Alibaba Group want to conduct at least 5 big LAN-tournaments in different esports disciplines.
